Plex getting built into LG TVs

With Plex 9 shipping on the same day as the Apple TV, there was plenty of comparison going on between the two options. Both have their pluses and minuses, but if you’ve got the money to spend on a Media PC or even a Mac Mini, we’d probably recommend Plex over Apple’s option, it gives you more flexibility.

This isn’t a review of Plex 9, that’s forthcoming, but there’s some interesting news out from the Plex team today that we wanted to share with everyone: Plex’s software is going to be built directly into LG HDTVs. It’s a huge deal, and could change the environment of the market if other television manufacturers are considering similar options.

If rich media players are finding their way into televisions, Apple might have a hard time selling some Apple TVs. There’s always going to be those of us who prefer the Apple experience over some of the other options on the market, but companies like Plex keep redefining what we expect from our television experience. Apple’s going to need to continue to force their way into our living rooms, or their hobby might remain just that.

Congrats to the guys at Plex, this could change everything.
