Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Server: The Review

I may be one of the odd people out when it comes to Mac OS X. While I don’t mind using the Mac OS X client version on my machines, I prefer running Mac OS X Server. I’ve purchased each version of OS X Server since Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. When I purchased it, I bought the 10-client license for $499. I also spent another $499 on the unlimited client version of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server. This time around I joined the Mac Developer program and was able to use it for the $99 entry price.

Second hacker gets nabbed in iPad data theft

Remember when AT&T was hacked back in June of 2010, and the hackers stole the information for 114,000 iPad users? Well, most people may not remember, but the United States judicial system definitely remembers because they charged a second man in the iPad data theft.

Apple pushes Lion GM to devs

It looks like the rumors of Mac OS X Lion being closer to release are true. Boy Genius Report is reporting Apple has given developers access to a potential Gold Master seed of Mac OS Lion.

As expected it is being pushed out via the Mac App Store to developers. Rumors have been swirling around that Apple is set to release Mac OS X 10.7 Lion to the masses as early as next week.

The only issue I see with the release date of next week is that we have not yet heard that developers are submitting 10.7 Lion Applications to the Mac App Store. If this is not done relatively soon, like within hours, the release date could be pushed back.

Want an unlocked AT&T iPhone? It may be possible...

Since the initial release of the iPhone back in 2007, many users have despised AT&T and wished to defect to T-Mobile. This could be accomplished in a number of different ways. Most of these have been through the use of Sim Unlock workarounds that are generally done through jailbreaking applications.

Another litter of AirPrint enabled printers released by HP

One of the most anticipated features of iOS 4 was its wireless printing feature, dubbed AirPrint. The service allows users to print directly from iOS devices. AirPrint was supposed to utilize any printers shared by Macs on the same local network as the iOS device. While this feature was cut before release, third party applications do exist to enable it. Despite AirPrint not being as powerful as it once was, HP has not stopped adding new AirPrint printers to the fray.

Mac Pro refresh to be equipped with a custom CPU and rack mountable?

When Apple announced that they were going to kill off the Xserve, many enterprises clamored against the decision and wanted some sort of solution for running servers. Apple did offer the Mac Pro server. While this is an option, it is not truly mountable within a standard 19-inch rack, which is the standard within enterprise data centers.

The newest rumor is that Apple may be preparing the next refresh of Mac Pros. One of the models in this refresh, Mac Pro Server, may be coming a step closer to being the true replacement of now defunct Xserve by offering rack-mounting. M.I.C. Gadget is the one reporting this rumor. The addition of rack-mounting may finally satisfy the enterprise market . This update would only apply to the aforementioned Server version of the Mac Pro and not to the other Mac Pros in the line.

iTunes Match has its first defector: The Numero Group
At WWDC 2011 Apple announced a new features of iTunes, iTunes Match, that has since been much talked about. iTune Match allows users to legitimize their less-than-legal music collection for a $25 per year fee. Basically, iTunes Match goes through your song collection and compares it to its iTunes catalog. Any songs with a match are added automatically to your iCloud library. This means that you only have to upload songs that are not found in iTunes.

Interestingly, there is one company that is opting out of iCloud and the iTunes Match service. Numero Group, a small Chicago-based music label, has decided it does not want to take any part in iTunes Match, and they have explained their reasoning in a blog post.
