Macbook Air Super Drive is only for the Air

I took a nice little walk over to my local Best Buy today, looking for a Wii Fit, but left extremely annoyed. Living in Canada’s Capital, we don’t have an Apple store, so I make a point of visiting the Apple section of the Best Buy while I’m in the store. I was messing around with a Macbook Pro, and I overheard a lady ask if the external SuperDrive would work on any machine, or just Macs. I minded my own business, but was appalled at the answer she received from the idiots that work for the Geek Squad. What did the idiot say? “It works on both.” I couldn’t believe it, and just shook my head in disgust. I was waiting to see her take one to a cashier before I was going to fill her in, but she thought better of it and walked out the front doors. I couldn’t have been happier.

So here’s a word of advice. The external SuperDrive does not work out of the box on any machine but the Macbook Air. While, I wish that wasn’t the case, there is nothing that can be done about it (well there is, but it’s not for the faint of heart). So please do me a favor, take the Geek Squad’s comments with a grain of salt. They often don’t have a clue. Better yet, if you really have a question that needs answering, and it is obviously mac related, drop us an email (info [.at.]macgasm.net) or comment. We’d love to help you out. The last thing we want is for a new switcher to be going home and getting pissed at Apple, when they should really be getting pissed at the people who sold them something on false information. While we don’t have all the answers to the questions that you might have, we certainly will do our best to get them for you!
