Branson to release iPad-only magazine “Project”

Surely in an attempt to not be outdone by Murdoch, Richard Branson has decided to release an iPad-only magazine next week. Being the first to the punch might pay huge dividends for the Virgin mogul, but it might not live up to the News Corps Daily application.

Branson, unlike Murdoch, seems to have gone at it alone, sans Apple Inc. engineers. Branson’s PR team has been pretty tight-lipped about the release. There is a press event scheduled to take place in New York City where they will release the application.  The application is rumoured to focus on culture-type things, including business, travel, the arts, and entertainment.

So, what’s it going to take to make the iPad-only magazine a success? Well, price point is going to be huge, as well as a regular update (hopefully daily). If there’s one thing lacking on the iPad right now, it’s up to the minute news from traditional print sources for an affordable and renewable price.

If Rupert Murdoch is about to make that happen on the iPad, we sincerely hope Branson has something similar. The more A-List publications start to come to the iPad, the more the iPad will become iPod 2.0.
