Apple Store employee spills the beans to Popular Mechanics

We’ve had a few former Apple Store employees write for this website, so we know full well what trials are associated with working at an Apple Store. We’ve also heard a lot of mixed reviews from people. Some people absolutely love the gig, and others despise it. I guess it comes down to what type of person you are, and whether or not you’re cut out for retail.

According to an anonymous Apple Store employee who decided to spill the beans to Popular Mechanics today, the gig has its positives and negatives.

Highlights from the Popular Mechanics interview include a section on dealing with Drug Dealers, Evil Customers, Chinese Resellers, and Product Launches, amongst many other things (for the record, those are the article headlines).

There are some funny moments, but on the whole I want to bring attention to one particular quote so that we have it on record here: “I am asked five times per day about the next iPad or iPhone, and I quite simply don’t know.”

There you have it, straight from a “source in the know.” Apple store employees have no idea about what’s shipping until it shows up at their door. That also goes for resellers, and any other type of person in the retail loop.

Hopefully this poor kid is already in hiding. We all know that he’s going to get flogged and fired if his identity is ever revealed.
