Verizon Suits: New iPhone, tiered data coming

According to a report out today by Reuters, Verizon Wireless is looking at moving away from its current unlimited (5 GB cap) data plans to a more teired structure this summer.

While company executives didn’t give specifics, this is consistent with remarks made previously.

It’s unclear if current iPhone 4 customers would be forced out of their unlimited data plans.

Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo said today to expect some “margin lumpiness” accompanied with any phone launch. Analysts believe that a new iPhone is due out this summer.

Verizon has only categorized the launch of the iPhone 4 on its network as “strong.” Neither Verizon or Apple have published actual sales figures, leading many to believe the handset is moving as quickly as the companies were hoping it would.

According to Reuters, Verizon stock sank over 2 percent on the news.
