Quick Tip: Send links to iPhone via iChat

One of the things I miss about carrying an Android-powered phone is Chrome to Phone, a neat little utility that lets users send links to their phones from their desktop browser.

Turns out, while there isn’t an official way of doing this, there is a really easy way to get it done without any 3rd-party apps.

If you use iChat (or Adium or any other AIM client out there), simply add a new contact, using the 10-digit phone number of your iPhone, with the +1 country code:

Once you add the buddy, it will show in your contact list:

Sending a message to that contact will actually send an SMS to your iPhone:

See? Magic!

Please note that I haven’t tested this outside of the US, and that since we’re using SMS, charges may apply.
