Instapaper, the progenitor of the save-for-later reading apps, has seen substantial updates in recent months. The 4.0 update back in October was huge as far as user-facing changes went, and the point releases were non-trivial as well since they brought back the old-style list view for the iPad. This week, Instapaper 4.2 has launched with completely revamped pagination.
If you’re a fan of the skeuomorphic design of iBooks, this update will tickle your fancy. An optional page-curl pagination function has been added to simulate actually reading a newspaper, magazine, or a book. If that kind of frilliness isn’t up your alley, you’re not left out in the cold. “Fast pagination mode” is available and has been completely redone to make it more accurate and snappier. Instead of the old scrolling method, a draggable dot-bar has now been added as well.
That’s not all, though. Here is a list of other changes added in 4.2:
- New two-finger-swipe gesture to close an article
- Full-screen now has “Auto” mode to switch to full screen after a few seconds
- The subtle Twilight Sepia color tint can now be selected at any time
- Added sharing to Drafts and the upcoming Quotebook 2.0
- Many bugfixes and performance improvements
This is a free update for existing users. If you don’t already have Instapaper, the app continues to retail for $4.99 USD.
