Photoshop Touch Updated, Still Blurry As Hell

PHOTO

Photoshop Touch, the tablet equivalent of Photoshop Elements, has been updated to version 1.2. While there are a number of substantial updates, one big problem remains: no Retina graphics. If you’re running Photoshop Touch on a third generation iPad, you’ll be greeted with a burry, pixelated UI. It is hard to recommend this app to anyone with a new iPad until this has been fixed.

That said, the updates are nice, and they make the app more useful. Previously, the maximum resolution for a photo was 1600 px by 1600 px with a maximum of 16 layers. That is still the default, but now the maximum resolution can be increased in the preferences to 2048 px by 2048 px with a maximum of 10 layers. It’s a non-trivial improvement.

Here are some of the other updates:

  • Automatic synchronization with Creative Cloud? available in 6 languages (English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Italian).
  • ?Added export to PSD and PNG via Camera Roll or email.
  • ?Improved rotate and flip image workflow.
  • Added ability to transfer images to desktop via iTunes.
  • Added two new Tutorials.
  • Added four new Effects (Watercolor Paint, HDR Look, Soft Light and Soft Skin).
  • Corrected the supported languages in iTunes.
  • Fixed Facebook login issue (displays “Success”).

If you’re still on an iPad 2, then you’re set. I’m sure you don’t mind the lower resolution anyway. New iPad users, however, need to steer clear for the time being.
