Makayama making a Movie Mount for the iPad 2

There’s a lot of reasons why editing video on the iPad makes some sense, but video shot on the iPad 2, as it is now, is pretty crappy. This is where Makayama comes into play. They’re creating a “movie mount” for the iPad 2.

The Movie Mount comes with a couple of hot-shoe mount positions for a microphone, or flash, as well as a lens system that lets you take advantage of tele or wide angle conversion lenses. The case also comes with a tripod mount, so you can shoot stable video on your iPad in a way that you haven’t been able to in the past.

Essentially the Makayama Movie Mount is the OWLE Bubo, but for the iPad. It looks like a pretty solid case, but we’re left wondering how many people will be shooting on the iPad. The rig could be perfect for field scenarios where you need to both shoot and edit on the go; however, the iPhone currently offers a better video camera solution. If I had the choice, I’d still shoot on the iPhone and edit on the iPad when the need arose.

What about you? Any film buffs out there who have an opinion? Let us know in the comments.
