The Pokemon Company speaks out about fake Pokemon Yellow app, fans still out of luck

Remember a few days ago when we reported about the fake Pokemon Yellow app that was skyrocketing its way to top of the App Store? Well, it’s since been removed, and the official Pokemon Company has responded, albeit vaguely, on how consumers should deal with this kind of thing.

The makers of the Pokemon franchise had this to say:

We continue to combat the unauthorised release of games, applications and merchandise that trick our fans into purchasing something that does not meet our quality standards … Fans who encounter questionable products should report to us immediately so we can keep other fans from falling victim to these scams…

Unfortunately, they never really clarified how exactly we’re supposed to contact them in such cases, but, as TechnoBuffalo has speculated, heading over to their official Contact Us page might be a good place to start.

The responsibility, however, ultimately falls into Apple’s hands. It’s their job to review games before they’re released for public consumption and to refund the defrauded customers. It’s kind of mind-boggling to think how something with such a noteworthy title was able to slip through Apple’s QA process like that. Valuable lesson learned, we hope.
