Piper Jaffary Doesn’t Expect Apple + IBM Deal To Have Impact On iPhone Sales

Gene Munster doesn’t believe that Apple’s recent IBM deal will have a large impact on iPhone sales. In a note to Apple investors, Munster mentions that nearly all Fortune 500 companies are testing iOS devices, and that even if the deal convinced Fortune 500 companies to purchase 2,000 more iPhones and 1,000 more iPads than originally planned, Apple will only add a half of a percent to its 2015 revenue.

 Per the note:

We do not expect the IBM partnership to have a meaningful impact on Apple’s financials overall primarily based on our belief that large corporations are already utilizing iPhones. We believe that IBM will add incremental functionality for corporate customers, but is unlikely to be the make or break factor for a large corporation in utilizing iOS.

However, not all is lost as Munster believes that the IBM partnership will bring stronger relationships with enterprise-level companies already using iPhones and iPads.

Apple and IBM announced a deal yesterday to develop more than 100 native industry-specific apps for enterprise users around the world. IBM will also start to sell iOS devices with industry specific solutions to its business clients, making iOS devices even more accessible to the enterprise market.
