HP ‘not convinced yet’ to use Thunderbolt, set on USB 3.0

Xavier Lauwaert, worldwide marketing manager for desktops at HP, has indicated that the company isn’t interested in adding Thunderbolt technology to its offerings quite yet, according to Macworld. He said, “On the PC side, everybody seems to be content with the expansion of USB 3.0. Do we need to go into more fancy solutions? Not convinced yet.”

Thunderbolt currently supports the PCI Express and DisplayPort, even on the same port, as Apple is using it. Intel insists Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 are complementary, and has said build chip sets with support for both USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt will be coming as early as 2012.

This week, HP released its Pavilion HPE H8 desktop series that can be custom-ordered with the high-speed connection. HP is one of the few PC builders that includes FireWire ports on some of its devices.
