Instagram To Begin Sharing Your Data With Facebook Starting In January

Instagram has just released an updated version of its privacy policy. Long story short, the company is setting themselves up to begin sharing user data with Facebook.

In a blog post on Instagram‘s website, the company has announced:
“Our updated privacy policy helps Instagram function more easily as part of Facebook by being able to share info between the two groups. This means we can do things like fight spam more effectively, detect system and reliability problems more quickly, and build better features for everyone by understanding how Instagram is used.”
While the information is pretty disingenuous, focusing on the small perks that customers will see from the changes, you should also be aware that Facebook stands to gain quite a bit of information from you, and the data Instagram is sending in their direction.

There’s a high likelihood that this all ends up in targeted advertisements on Instagram, considering both have mentioned the possibility, albeit rather vaguely. Sure, there’s spam benefits, but we’re willing to bet the more important information making the move is whether or not you prefer Pepsi over Coke with your lunch.
