Snapseed Now Free, Brings Google+ Functionality

Snapseed is one of the more popular photo editing software apps for iPhone and iPad and it has gotten a new update today. But, more importantly, Snapseed is now a free download on the App Store.

Google bought Snapseed from developer Nik Software back in September. Before this, Snapseed had gone free for short periods of time, but this time it’s here to stay. On top of that, Snapseed has also integrated Google+ functionality. A new Retrolux filter and updated Frame filter have also beed added:

• New Retrolux filter! Use one of the newly created film styles, combined with a range of different scratches and textures as well as light leaks to create a truly retro look for your photos.
• Updated Frames filter! Now includes a wide range of new, high quality photographic frames. Colorize the frame edges to match the look of your image or switch to square mode with a single tap.

Google adding Google+ functionality to Snapseed is a smart move, and one that will help it to compete against Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram. Making Snapseed free is a big move, and Google just launched it on Android as well.

So if you’ve been avoiding Snapseed before now because of the price, there’s nothing stopping you now. Head on over to the App Store to get it for free.
