Facebook Influence Shows Up In Instagram’s Brand New Web-based User Profiles

Instagram has begun rolling out new profile pages for its users this morning. The focus, as would be expected, is on the images users take. The thing is, though, the service is beginning to look more and more like Facebook. Instagram, now actually owned by Facebook thanks to a buyout worth a cool billion dollars, now gives its users a home on the Internet, including comment streams, the ability to follow friends as well as like your favorite images directly from the web, without having to use a mobile application on the iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

If you’re curious about your profile, and how it now looks, all you have to do is visit http://instagram.com/username. If you don’t have a web profile just yet, don’t fret. Instagram will be rolling the profiles out to its users over the next couple of days, and eventually to everyone by the end of the week.

It’s going to be interesting to see just how far Instagram and Facebook merge over the next couple of years.
