UK Judge Says Apple Must Publicly Apologize To Samsung

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 case between Apple and Samsung has come to an end in the United Kingdom, but with an odd twist. The final ruling is that Samsung did not copy the iPad’s design. Apple has been ordered by a UK judge to publish public statements to clear up any confusion on the matter.

Bloomberg reports:

The notice should outline the July 9 London court decision that Samsung’s Galaxy tablets don’t infringe Apple’s registered designs, Judge Colin Birss said. It should be posted on Apple’s U.K. website for six months and published in several newspapers and magazines to correct the damaging impression the South Korea-based company was copying Apple’s product, Birss said.

According to the ruling, Apple must have the message posted on its website for six months. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 is still banned in the US, so it’s surprising to see the UK judicial system take a different stance on the matter. In my opinion there’s clearly iPad inspiration in the Galaxy Tab’s design. Just my two cents…

Apple still has the option to appeal the ruling, but there’s currently no talk of that happening. Will Apple let Samsung rest on this one? If not, what will this apology message say?

Will Apple ever stop fighting Samsung on patent infringements?
