Remember, remember the 31st of March. Wait, what? Anonymous has announced that it plans to shut down the Internet on March 31st in protest to SOPA, Wallstreet, and pretty much every other stupid politican and organization that doesn’t look out for the public like they promise.
The protest, called Operation Global Blackout 2012, is going to take aim at the core DNS servers, making the Internet pretty much unsuable for anyone who dosen’t have IP addresses memorized for their favorite websites.
By cutting these off the Internet, nobody will be able to perform a domain name look-up, thus, disabling the HTTP Internet, which is, after all, the most widely used function of the Web. Anybody entering “http://www.google.com” or ANY other url, will get an error page, thus, they will think the Internet is down, which is, close enough. Remember, this is a protest, we are not trying to ‘kill’ the Internet, we are only temporarily shutting it down where it hurts the most.
I don’t know about you, but this sounds like an excellent opportunity to unplug over the weekend and get some spring cleaning done before it gets too warm outside.
