Apple officially announces New York education event

The invites have been sent, the press informed. Apple is officially holding a press event in New York City on January 19, 2012. The topic: an education announcement. The event will be held at the Guggenheim Museum, and will start at 10:00 AM EST.

Many expect that Apple will announce new plans for integrating textbooks, and educational materials with the iPad.

We get that the iPad is making huge inroads in education, but we also wonder how much success the iPad will have in schools that can barely afford chalkboard upgrades and textbooks for children.  There’s no doubt that the iPad would be a huge positive force in the learning process, but can lower-income, and middle-income schools really afford a curriculum based around the iPad?  Of course, we have no idea what Apple’s about to announce, so we’re going to have to wait and see how this all plays out on the 19th.
