Apple has released an iOS 5.1 update to developers today. Amongst the many bug fixes and updates, a major new addition to iOS has been unveiled: Users can now manually manage their Photo Stream.
Up until this point Photo Stream has been an all or nothing service. Users could either share all of their photos across the Photo Stream, or none of them. For some that wouldn’t be a problem, but for others, like those who review applications for a living, having a Photo Stream full of app screenshots defeats the purpose of the technology. App reviewers are one thing, but what about those of you who have a need to sext people? Problematic, indeed.
iOS 5.1 doesn’t have a scheduled release date yet, but if you’re a developer, and you don’t mind running beta software, you can update your iOS devices right away.

I didn't realize how much junk gets stuck in there until I did our holiday photo albums last weekend. So many screenshots, image downloads, photos I take for documenting settings, just so much not needed crap. This makes me happy!

LikeIt's so much more useful this way. How Photo Stream made its way out of the doors at Cupertino without anyone realizing it sucked without a delete option is beyond me.

LikeNot necessarily in their defense, but as someone that tries to predict how her users use things, you can't always know. Testing in a closed off scenario may have not let them fully think it through. Or maybe there are people out there that only use their iphone camera/photo reel for pics?
