Surprise! Kids want Apple products for Christmas

An interesting Nielsen survey has revealed that 44 percent of kids from ages 6 through to 12 want an iPad for Christmas. In other news, who the heck spends between $500 and $600 on a child for Christmas? Not to be outdone by the iPad, the iPod touch and iPhone come in at the second and third spot, respectively, on kids’ Christmas lists.

From Nielsen:

Consistent with U.S. kids’ 2010 wish lists, the Apple iPad is the most desired consumer electronic among kids ages 6-12 for holiday 2011. In fact, the iPad increases its stronghold, with nearly half (44%) of kids expressing interest in the product, up from 31 percent in 2010. Two other popular Apple devices – iPod Touch (30%) and iPhone (27%) – round out kids’ top three, with computers and other tablet brands each appealing to a quarter of younger consumers.

Other popular devices that made kids’ wish lists this year include computers, the Nintendo 3DS, Xbox 360, Playstations, and anything else that may be classified as shiny, bank account busting, technology.

All kidding aside, we’re not surprised with Nielsen’s findings this year. It warms my heart that children of today are as infatuated with technology and video games as I was as a child. To be fair, most of the gifts listed in the survey results make for a great “family” gift for the kids, except maybe the iPad. I still have a very hard time recommending the iPad as a group family device. Lack of multi-user accounts is a real downer for me.

Are you planning on buying some “iDevices” for the kids this holiday season? If so, what are you thinking about picking up? Let us know in the comments.
