Rumor: iPhone 5 may not be going into production until September

Rumor: iPhone 5 may not be going into production until SeptemberIt’s delayed; it’s not delayed; it’s on track; it’s never coming. The story of the iPhone 5 continues today with a brand new rumor suggesting that mass production on the iPhone 5 won’t begin until September. According to a new note from Avian Securities, based on a tip from a key component supplier, Apple’s not going to be ramping up iPhone 5 production until September.

The rumors don’t end there though. There’s also been a mention of a cheaper, lower spec iPhone model in the works.

If true, it could mean that the iPhone 5 won’t be released until the late fall, or even in time for the holiday season. It’s long been rumored that Apple’s been looking to shift some of their products to a schedule more in line with the consumer blitz over the holiday season.

As for the lower spec, cheaper iPhone edition, we still find it hard to believe that Apple would offer a new version. Apple currently sells both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, while pricing the latter at a lower price. There’s always been a “cheaper” iPhone version available. If Apple were to change this tactic, it’s likely that the practice of discounting the previous generation iPhone would come to an end.
