New iPad 2 already in production

People familiar with the matter have struck again. This time, they’ve reared their heads and whispered to the Wall Street Journal that the iPad 2 is already in production. According to the WSJ, the device will be thinner, lighter, and faster. I know that kind of sounds like a verse from that Daft Punk song, but it’s their words and not ours.

Also in the production iPad 2, a dual camera and a 1024×768 display. The iPad 2 will also be shipping from Verizon and AT&T, but no other carriers in the US. There’s no mention if the device will be US exclusive or not.

These rumors have me wondering if we’re going to see more of a specification “bump” than we are a brand new iPad. Think more like the recent iPod touch update than an iPhone 4 update. Just a thought, and based on nothing but conjecture.

Recently discovered your blog after listening to your podcasts while researching a MacBook Air vs an iPad- nice work, I now follow on Twitter, and have you on my blogroll. I am looking for little change in the iPad, but hoping for a big step forward surprise that will dishearten and crush the other tablet developers.

i am sure apple will include just enough new features to make existing owners want to buy a new one and hand down or sell their old one. they have to hold back something for next years model. my guess it iPad 2 will get all the same features as ipod touch minus retina display. Maybe a small res bump. I suspect iPad 2 will include the same qualcomm world baseband chip in the verizon iphone 4, but support both types of data networks in the same device.
