Handbrake, the popular multi-platform transcoding tool, has officially released version 0.9.3 to the public today. New in this version is the ability to transcode other sources of video besides DVDs. On the flip side, there is no longer any more built-in DVD decryption. While this may seem like bad news to users on the surface, it isn’t really that bad. If you’re a Mac user, and you install VLC in your applications folder, it will transparently use VLC’s decrypting engine. Cool, huh?
Along with the big updates come numerous small updates. Video queues are now saved between sessions. More than two audio tracks can be included in each video. All new presets are available for download to keep everything simple. Most importantly, the quality of the finished product is now better thanks to many updates to x264, the encoding workhorse underneath Handbrake’s shiny interface.
The developers have outdone themselves with this version. Make sure to get a copy of it for yourself.
