Stay Wireless With The mySpot

If you’re a frequent traveler, you’ve probably found yourself in a hotel with free wired Internet access. While this is nice if you have a MacBook Pro sans Retina Display, you’re SOL if you have a MacBook Air or a Retina-equipped MacBook Pro. Sure, you could buy a Thunderbolt or USB to Ethernet adapter, but then you’re tethered to the wall. However, Kanex aims to fix this issue with the mySpot: a tiny wireless router that reroutes any ethernet connection wirelessly.

The mySpot is powered via USB and is ideally paired with an AC USB plug. The mySpot’s USB power cable is built-in to the device, so the only cable you have to bring is an ethernet cable. The device itself is quite small, and looks to be about the size of a USB flash drive or data card.

Connectivity wise, the mySpot provides a wireless-G connection and works with any wi-fi enabled device. While the company hasn’t provided specifics on the device in terms of connection strength, it has said that the mySpot will let you connect to all of your devices within a hotel room. The device does include WEP security, so you can be sure that your data is at least partially secure when using the mySpot.

The mySpot is available for around $30 on the Amazon Marketplace. We’d highly recommend this device to anyone who travels frequently and uses multiple wireless devices due to the mySpot’s small form and plug-and-play capabilities.
