Rumor: New Apple TV to launch the same time as the iPad 3

With Apple TV stock drying up at brick and mortar stores around the US, rumors have been circulating that a brand new, updated Apple TV will be announced at Apple’s next major product keynote. Many have been speculating that Apple will be releasing an iPad 3 on March 7, 2012, and now, according to 9to5Mac, Apple may also be releasing a new Apple TV.

According to 9to5Mac:

The new Apple TV is rumored to include a faster processor, possibly a variation of the dual-core A5 chip. The dual-core A5 chip has been said to be required for the Apple TV to finally stream 1080p quality video, but Apple is also working on an “A5X” chip that is dual-core, which also includes an improved graphics engine.

1080p video streaming would be huge, and that would likely be the reason for the A5/A5X chip increase in the device since streaming HD video playback at that resolution requires quite a bit of power. If the Apple TV stays at the same price, I’ll easily buy a new one. The Apple TV may be the best Apple purchase I’ve made in the last two years. I use it on a daily basis.
