So long Acer, Apple climbs into the No. 3 spot in the US

There’s growth, and then there’s Apple growth, and the numbers for the 3rd quarter U.S.-based PC shipments tell an interesting story. Apple’s growing state-side faster than their contemporaries. Toshiba grew 11.6% into the fifth spot, and Apple Inc. grew a whopping 24.1% to displace the Acer Group, for 10.6% of 3rd quarter market share.

The importance of a presence in Southeast Asia shows up in the worldwide rankings, which has HP, Acer, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and Toshiba rounding up the top six. It might explain Apple’s bullish attitude when it comes to finding success in China this year. Both Lenovo and ASUS saw growth rates exceed 30 percent this year over last. Apple didn’t make the top five.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out into the holiday season this year.  Will Apple reap the benefits of having a better presence in China during the 4th quarter? Only time will tell. Surely the Mac event scheduled for October 20th will help bump sales for the holidays, should any potential devices be ready to ship.
