Giving Tim a quick break , Scott Forestall took the stage to fill us all in on the direction of the underlying OS that makes all of the iDevice possible, iOS.
iOS is the number 1 mobile operating system and accounts for 43 percent of the market.
The momentum of iOS is partially fueled by its developer community, which consistantly pumps out apps to engage users of iDevices. As an example, there are over 140,000 iPad-specific apps. The number of developers who have already adopted the beta versions of iOS 5 is in excess of 100,000.
And now, iOS 5 has a release date, October 12th, which will bring forth all of the features we’ve been reporting about since its original debut.
