Disney acquires Tapulous

Tapulous, creator of the popular iPhone games Tap Tap Revenge and Tap Tap Dance, has announced that they will be joining forces with Disney as part of the Disney Interactive Media Group. Disney already has a solid presence in the mobile gaming world with such games as Disney Fairies Fly and Disney Puzzle Slider for the iPhone and Toy Story 3 Read-Along and Jelly Car 2 for the iPad. Tapulous will likely be helping Disney maintain their presence in the mobile gaming world, perhaps helping them extend beyond the movie-based apps that seems to be Disney’s forte at this point.

Announcing this recent development on their blog, Tapulous made a few promises about their continued commitment to the iPhone/iPad community:

As part of Disney Interactive Media Group, we’ll develop more games, more quickly and with the resources of the world’s leading entertainment company. We will continue to develop apps that live at the intersection of music and gaming, but we’ll also push into new and exciting areas of mobile social entertainment.

TechCrunch reports that Bart Decram and Andrew Lacy, founders of Tapulous, will join Disney in leadership roles in their mobile gaming group, as senior VPs.

Given the success that Tapulous has managed to attain on their own, it will be interesting to see what they are able to create with Disney’s backing. My only hope is that they don’t start with a whole series of Hannah Montana apps.
