Opera has decided to move away from the Presto engine, choosing Webkit instead, which is the same web rendering machine that is used by popular browsers like Chrome and Safari. Now you can get the beta version of the new Opera browser for Android from the Google Play Store.
Using the new rendering engine, the Opera browser is faster and more efficient. The beta version of Opera also brings some other improvements, including an improved speed dial page, support for HTML5, and a new “off-road” mode that looks to reduce data usage. There’s also a a Discover feature, which helps to personalize your news feed.
The beta version of Opera is available for free from the Google Play Store, but keep in mind that this isn’t the final version of the browser, so you might still come across a few bugs while you’re giving it a test run. A final release date hasn’t been announced yet.
