Apple’s OS X Operating System Beats Windows Vista In Worldwide Web Usage Stats

Net Applications’ most recent monthly tracking data of operating shares shows that Microsoft’s Windows Vista fell 6.15 percent of tracked Web usage in August while Apple’s latest OS X operating system, Mountain Lion 10.8, grew to 1.34 percent of all tracked Web usage.

Apple’s most popular Mac operating system is still OS X 10.7 Lion, which represents 2.29 percent of computers tracked on the web. Along with Snow Leopard at 2.23 percent and Leopard at 0.65 percent, the total collective share of OS X was 6.51 percent, beating out the 6.15 percent held by Windows Vista.

Apple’s share of devices is even greater with the inclusion of the iPad and iPhone. According to Net Applications, the iPad accounted for 3.37 percent of Web traffic and the iPhone held 2.42 percent.

Windows 7 is at the top of the list with 38.54 percent, beating out Windows XP for the first time with 38.46 percent. Apple beat out other mobile platforms, including Google Android 2.3 with 1.02 percent of the market share, Android 4.0 with 0.48 percent, Android 2.2 with 0.21 percent, Blackberry with 0.18 percent and Apple’s iPod took 0.16 percent. The smallest share that Net Applications found was Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which accounted for 0.04 percent of devices.
