Apple Wins D&AD Award, Jony Ive And Entire Design Team Fly To London To Receive Award

Apple has been named the best brand and the best studio design team of the last 50 years at the D&AD Awards (Design and Art Direction) in London, England. This is one of the world’s most prestigious awards for advertising and design.

According to the Evening Standard, Jony Ive, the genius behind Apple’s designs, and his entire design team — all 16 members — flew out to London to receive the award, which was held at a dinner at Evolution in Battersea Park in London. The design team accompanied Ive on to the stage to collect the award for best studio design.

This is a pretty big deal because before this Apple’s design team had never attended an award ceremony. Their appearance at the ceremony was even more notable, and spoke to the prestigiousness of the D&AD Awards, with much of Apple’s focus on the iPhone 5 launch, which arrives in two days.

Ive declined to comment publicly but had a huge smile on his face while he spoke with other guests at the 50th anniversary celebration of D&AD. Clive Grinyer, who used to work with Ive at design consultancy Tangerince, said of Apple’s products: “The design is inherent in every part of the brand.”
