2012 presidential election gets iPhone app from the NYTimes

The New York Times has released a “curated” news application for the iPhone to cover the 2012 presidential election. The application offers news, polling data, candidate information, and eventually, once the big shindig goes down, live election results.

Fiona Spruill, Editor, Emerging Platforms at the New York Times:

Our own journalism is really the anchor to this app, but we’re also adding this element of handpicking the other articles, videos and tweets that we think are the most important if you want to be a well-read political news consumer.

The New York Times has hired a full time editor to curate news from around the world about the 2012 US presidential election instead of having their own journalists write all of the stories themselves. It’s an interesting move for the company.

You can get the NYTimes Election 2012 application on the App Store already. The application is not universal, but does work at 2x on your iPad.
