Still rocking a PPC Mac? This site might be for you.

I was just patrolling our traffic logs (don’t ask) when I noticed some unique traffic coming from a website called PPC Luddite: Living PowerPC in the Age of Intel. Knowing that someone out there is still trying to get the most out of their PPC Mac made my Monday afternoon, so I thought I’d pass along a link. The website has all kinds of articles on things that directly pertain to running a PowerPC machine in today’s day and age.

The entire website is dedicated to running a PPC machine in a world where everyone, including Apple, seems to be pulling support for PPC software. I think there’s a new picture beside dedication in the dictionary.

While I’ve given up my iBook to a member of my extended family recently, I still think about it from time to time. It was my first Mac, and probably the first piece of technology that I could honestly say that I loved—it just kept on ticking. Year after year, month after month, my iBook G4 just wouldn’t die.

That iBook often has me thinking about our race toward bigger, stronger, and faster machines just for the sake of it, simply because it’s available. Sometimes it’s frightening for me to sit back and think about how many machines end up in the landfill simple because of their age, and not because they’re was dead. This is also the reason that I refuse to upgrade my iPhone 3G until it physically dies an unrepairable death. Anyway, I digress.

I just wanted to say this publicly: PPCluddite, we salute you!
