MacBook Air Experiencing Noise Issues With ThunderBolt Display

Users of the 2012 MacBook Air have recently been reporting issues when using the Apple Thunderbolt Display. According to Apple Insider, users on the Apple Support Communities are reporting crackling issues with the Thunderbolt Display’s internal speakers. This issue seems to be affecting both the 11-inch and 13-inch variants of the MacBook Air. As of now, the thread is 26 pages long and is affecting multiple users. However, some users are hearing crackling more than others. An isolated issue was also found by one MacBook Pro with Retina display user, but it seems to only be affecting him as no other users have reported issues.

Apple Insider reports that these issues could be caused by the 2012 MacBook Air’s new firmware for how audio output is handled as the internal speakers are working fine.  Because of this, the problem should be solvable with a simple software update. However, it may take awhile for us to actually see this update, so you may want to break out an old pair of external speakers or a set of headphones until the fix is pushed out.

If you own both a 2012 MacBook Air and a Thunderbolt Display, are you having issues with sound? Let us know by leaving a comment on this post.
