iFixit releases kit that lets you install dual hard drives in 21.5-inch iMac

The fine folks over at iFixit have released a new hard drive kit for 21.5-inch iMacs manufactured in 2011. The kit lets customers double up their storage across two distinct hard drives, despite not having the option when purchasing their systems from Apple:

We’ve custom designed a kit with all the parts and tools you need to install a second hard drive inside your Mid 2011 21.5″ iMac. It will work with all processor speeds, regardless of whether Apple offers the additional SSD option for your machine.

Normally these kits require that you axe your optical drive, but the iFixit kit lets you keep the drive, install an SSD, and still keep the hard drive that shipped with your iMac. The kit only costs $69.95, which is a small price to pay if you’re looking to speed things up with a solid-state drive these days.

By the way, we’re live streaming during the iPad 3 event tomorrow. Check out the details.
