Best Buy Recalls 5,100 MacBook Replacement Batteries Because Of Fire Risk

Best Buy recently recalled a hefty 5,100 replacement batteries for MacBooks because there’s risk of them catching fire. So far, there have been thirteen reports of the battery actually catching fire, with one person suffering a serious burn on the leg.

Best Buy is reportedly contacting each customer individually to see if they want a battery replacement or would prefer to get a Best Buy gift card instead for the same value as the replacement battery.

According to AP, Best Buy has decided to recall both the black and white ATG litthium-ion replacement batteries for the notebook computers. These batteries were sold online or shipped to customers through the Geek Squad services between September 2008 and June 2012 for $50.

We should reiterate that these batteries are not Apple branded, nor are they manufactured by Apple.  This is a great example that illustrates why you should really think long and hard before you buy third-party cables and batteries for your devices.
