Apple Releases EFI Update For 2012 MacBook Airs

Apple has just released an update for all 2012 MacBook Airs. Apple has noted that this EFI update fixes a color issue with HDMI connected displays, a Windows issue that prevented MacBook Airs from booting properly as well as a Thunderbolt issue that caused MacBooks to freeze when Thunderbolt devices were unplugged.

EFI is a BIOS standard developed by Intel. An EFI is essentially a standard BIOS on steroids with tons of added features. This is why large hardware issues tend to be fixed with EFI updates as it allows your system to update its core components.

You can download the MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.6 via Apple’s website or you can update to it via Software Update on your Mac. Keep in mind that this update may take a few minutes to install and that your MacBook should be plugged in while installing the EFI update.
