How long until we have a real Photoshop competitor on iOS?

Adobe has released Photoshop Express for both the iPhone and iPad. It is a fine app for very basic photo manipulation like cropping and rotation, but it isn’t at all intended for the same type of audience as Photoshop or even Photoshop Elements. At this point, we’re still stuck in the “Passive medium” rut with iOS, and many of the big companies don’t want to take the jump to make a powerful and unique creation tool for the iPad or iPhone.

Very recently, we’ve seen a big push of sleek image manipulation tools on the Mac like Acorn and Pixelmator. It can’t be long until these developers take their game to the iPad, and start to dominate a market Adobe might not even know exists.

So, here is what I want to know: Is Adobe developing a proper Photoshop implementation for iOS? Do you think it’s ready to go, and they’re just waiting for the right time to announce it? Let me know your theories on the photo manipulation market for iOS. Drop me a comment below this post.
