iWork ’08 Mini-Review

I used Pages quite a bit today. I have to say, it really is a nice application. The templates are actually useful, and that is certainly a nice change of pace. I think the formatting is a lot easier to pull off in Pages than it is with any word processor I have ever used. Don’t get me wrong, I think TextEdit and Bean are fantastic. I’ll continue to use both of those apps, but Pages satisfies a need I didn’t even know I had.

Keynote is brilliant. I’m not really a huge presentation guy, but the app is dripping with class. You have to work hard to make your presentations look crappy. Manipulating the templates to fit your needs couldn’t be any easier. It is idiot proof, and designer friendly. Brilliant is the only way to describe it.

Numbers”¦ I um”¦ Yeah. I don’t use spreadsheets. Nothing personal, man, I just don’t dig on their vibes. I make lists, but I don’t need math. I think a database app would actually be more my speed. This is for people that need the power of a hardcore spreadsheet, but hate the canonical look. If you want the nerdy grid nonsense to get out of your way so that you can work, this is the app for you.
