iTunes 10.1 released

Hot on the heels of 10.6.5, Apple has released iTunes 10.1 to the public. iTunes 10.1 has been available in beta for software developers for weeks, as the then-current iTunes 10.0.1 did not support iOS 4.2. iTunes 10 was released in September of this year with a slightly revamped user interface, a new logo and Ping, Apple’s music-centric social network.

Here are the release notes:

– Use AirPlay to instantly and wirelessly stream videos from iTunes to the all-new Apple TV.
– Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.2.
– Provides a number of important stability and performance improvements.

It’s unclear if the Apple TV will require an update to receive AirPlay videos from iTunes. Right now, the feature doesn’t seem to be working, as noted by 9 to 5 Mac.

iOS 4.2 is expected in the coming week or so.

The update is available through Software Update or directly from Apple’s website. If you get AirPlay working with an Apple TV, be sure to let us know in the comments!
