iPhone SDK and lack of Background processing

With the announcement of the iPhone SDK and the inability for developers to allow their applications to run in the background. I’m not sure how much this will truly impact people, given the fact now that if you’re browsing macgasm on your iPhone and you get a phone call, you can’t browse the internet at the same time. All EDGE connectivity is cut off once you take a phone call, it doesn’t matter. It’s the way the phone works. However, Wifi does still work, so this, in some respects negates the argument. But not everybody is within Wifi range all the time. It’s just a thought, so who knows why Apple won’t allow 3rd party applications to run in the background.
