GDGT is reporting that in today’s WWDC Stevenote, Apple is dropping the confusing name “iPhone OS” in favor of “iOS” for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. This will eliminate the need for explanation of the platform every time we say the name of the operating system. This is great news for me, at least.

Steve demoed the capabilities that were previously announced. Multitasking, unified inbox, iBooks, and folders were all mentioned. In addition, Bing is now available as a search option in Safari.

Every iBook you purchase can be downloaded on every iOS device you have for no extra cost. How long until we get the same treatment for music and video?

Continue following Macgasm for updates throughout the keynote, and in-depth coverage after the event.
