Spotdox Lets You Access Any File On Your Computer From Anywhere With Dropbox

Most people know and love Dropbox and the way it syncs files between multiple devices, but what happens when you’ve left out a couple of files and later realize you need them but don’t have your Mac with you? Enter Spotdox. Part Mac app and part iOS-accessible web service, Spotdox is an add-on to Dropbox that lets you access any file on your computer from any location or device so long as it’s downloaded on your Mac.

All you have to do is download Spotdox and keep it running on your Mac, which will extend Dropbox’s functionality. While Dropbox only allows access to files directly in your Dropbox folder, Spotdox lets you browse, copy, and send any file or folder on your computer to any other device.

When you download Spotdox, the app will request authorization to access your Dropbox account. If you have more than one account, you can install Spotdox on each one to access files on each computer. To make sure you can access the files, make sure to enable Open Spotdox at Login from the app’s menu so that Spotdox is continually running.

To use Spotdox, just load a special Spotdox URL on another device, like a different Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Spotdox uses Spotlight on your Mac to find the file you’re looking for and then moves in into your Dropbox on request. Once it’s there, you can access the file from any Dropbox app on any Mac or iDevice.

If you find that your Dropbox is full, you can even move stuff out of it and onto your Mac from any phone or web browser. So, if you’re not at your computer, you can easily upload photos while on the road to Dropbox and then transfer them to you Mac, which frees up more space.

While pricing hasn’t been announced yet, the first 10,000 users can get a free lifetime membership account. So what are you waiting for?
