Sony releases Crackle on the App Store

If you’re running out of content to stream on Netflix then you might want to check out Sony’s latest offering. The Crackle application lets you stream movies and television shows over Wi-Fi or 3G. The content leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the available titles are from previous generations, so don’t expect to see anything from the last two years available.

The video playback also leaves something to be desired. The press on the app points out the high-quality video, but all we got during initial testing was pixellated video and blurry photographs. We should also point out that the application lacks AirPlay support. You won’t be sending these shows to your Apple TV any time soon.

Currently, the application offers content from Columbia Pictures, Tri-Star, Screen Gems, and Sony Pictures Classics. If you’re hoping to see Pamela Anderson in skimpy clothing, you’re in luck. The smash hit VIP is available for streaming.

Booyah.

The application is available on the App Store, and it’s universal, so if you’re hoping to kill some time at work on your iPhone, you’re in luck.
