Rumor: Verizon iPhone to be announced on Valentine’s Day

With CES around the corner, the rumored date of a Verizon iPhone announcement continues to slip into the future. Peter Burrows at Business Week pegs the date now to be February 14 — Valentine’s Day.

A non-CES announcement makes a lot of sense. One reason Apple pulled out of MacWorld was so it wasn’t tied to a date to make product announcements. And while a Verizon iPhone would surely have grabbed plenty of headlines, Apple likes grabbing all the headlines. In a week where most tech journalists are covering numerous devices and announcements, that can’t happen.

That said, I’m not sure how much false hope I can stand anymore. As a Verizon customer, I’m tired of being yanked around by these rumors. As much as I want Steve to give me a sweet Valentine’s present, I’m not sure I can count on it just yet.
