NRA Releases Shooting App, Appropriate For Ages 4+?

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has launched an app for iOS devices that lets users practice shooting in a simulated shooting range. Apparently the app is appropriate for ages four and up. Not exactly the smartest move on the planet, considering recent events.

NRA: Practice Range also provides access to the NRA network of news, laws, facts, knowledge, safety tips, educational material, and online resources. Most of the links just open your browser and take you directly to the NRA’ s website. The main focus of the app really seems to be the shooting mini-game that lets users practice shooting targets in three different modes: Indoor Range, Outdoor Range, and Skeet Shoot. You also get to choose your own weapon and can even pay an extra dollar to unlock more powerful guns.

While the app does offer some education and facts about gun safety and control, that the game is appropriate for children seems a little ridiculous. The safety tips provided probably aren’t something that will prevent a kid from accidentally setting off a gun at home, f or instance, “Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting.”

This app might help people educate themselves more before using or getting a gun, but saying a shooting game is appropriate for four-year-olds is a bit of a stretch.  The Appside put it best, “Is now the best time for a National Rifle Association (NRA) 3D shooting game? We’d suggest not.”

This is one time that we hope Apple pulls an app from the App Store. The rating is absurd.
