If you’re still holding out hope for a Microsoft Office version for iOS, a new bit of information from a Microsoft product manager provides us with some details about when we can expect the product to ship. Up until this point we were pretty skeptical about Office ever shipping for iOS.
The information, sent in a press release from a Microsoft team deep in the Czech Republic, states, according to the Verge:
In addition to Windows, Office will be also available on other operating systems, Windows Phone, Windows RT, Mac OS, Android, iOS and Symbian,” says Microsoft, while separately noting that there will also be a new version of Office Web Apps too … The press release also mentions that Office 2013 will be made available to businesses in December, with a consumer launch scheduled for the end of February 2013. “Office 365 services and other Office products for mobile (phones and tablets) will be released from March 2013,” says Microsoft.
Rumors about an Office version for iOS have been going back and forth over the last year. Many have claimed that the project exists and that a release was imminent. Microsoft then publicly dispelled the rumor, albeit, rather vaguely.
With Office on iOS, and even Android, Microsoft is helping to solidify these devices as capable business tablets. That’s the kind of thing we never thought we’d see happen in Redmond.
