Maps For The Blind, A Concept For The iPhone

Three designers have designed a concept called Blind Maps that would transform traditional mapping information from an iPhone application to braille by attaching the “Blind Maps” device to an iPhone’s dock connector port.

From Designboom:

Known as ‘blind maps’, the braille-like interface provides users an interactive experience with real time auditory feedback and tactile integration. it allows you to become aware of upcoming intersections, turns and hazards on route – helping them adapt to unfamiliar environments.

Honestly, let’s just hope this thing wasn’t built to interface with Apple’s Maps app. People who can see are ending up lost in the wilderness.
