Line2 wants to put telcos out of business: $10 unlimited package

If you haven’t heard of Line2, then you’re going to want to go and download their application right now. Any company who lists one of their goals as “putting the phone companies out of business” deserves a couple of minutes in the lime-light.

Line2 is an iPhone, iPod touch and iPad application that lets you make calls using your data plan, cellular network, or WiFi network for $10.00 per month. I know what you’re thinking. Another $10.00 charge shouldn’t be taken lightly, but they’re offering up unlimited calls, unlimited texts and a voicemail service.  They even provide you with a local (US / Canada) calling number for your device.

Maybe their goal of bringing down the telcos isn’t all that lofty after all. The application, brought to our attention from TUAW (they have some good CES coverage going on), makes use of all the typical iPhone calling features like merging calls, speaker phone, and mute.

There’s a free 30-day trial, but like we said earlier, you will ultimately end up paying $10.00 a month for the service.

We’re going to be rooting for the Line2 team this year, so we’ll try to keep you updated on what’s going on.
